Update from Ruby
Dear Red Hatters,Decades of Sparkle was SO much fun! But, boy was I tired after that convention was over! EQM Sue Ellen and Lady Bug Debra (and their husbands) must have noticed that, because they graciously invited me to accompany the four of them on their week’s vacation to the hills of North Carolina – the shores of Lake James, to be exact. We spent several days exploring the area by car and a few days just “vegging” too, surrounded by the lush greenery that this beautiful state is known for.
Then they invited me back to California for a visit. I always enjoy this, because I get to see everyone at Hatquarters. It’s such fun to see the Viscountess of Vino, Lady Cranberry, Lady Di, Princess Nefarious, Princess Peach, et al (and could I fail to mention little Cheeky Monkey?) All of them have become such good friends! I just love to play the part of a fly on the wall and observe the hustle and bustle there!
Naturally, I’ve been getting in a lot of Red Hatting too. I had a wonderful time visiting Warner Brothers studios with Debra and Sue Ellen to preview a brand new Richard Gere/Diane Lane movie, “Nights in Rodanthe!” I didn’t glimpse any movie stars, but it sure wasn’t for lack of trying! Dang it! The movie made me cry, but I couldn’t borrow Debra or Sue Ellen’s Kleenex because they were already sopping, so I had to make do with the hem of my dress. (Gross!) Oh well, it was a “good” cry!
I went to tea with the Fabulous Founders’ sister chapter, the Dazzling Divas, at a big lavender Victorian teahouse. Although we Red Hatters enjoy widely varied activities, the occasional high tea still hits the spot. (Love that lemon curd and clotted cream!)
I also attended the Fabulous Founders’ flip flop party. After we’d all admired each other’s flip flops (thongs) and enjoyed a salad potluck, Queen Sue II whipped a blanket off of a table covered with wigs, “jewels” and hats (surprise!) and invited each of us to experiment with new looks. Hysterical laughter filled the air as everybody passed around long wigs, short wigs, straight wigs, curly wigs – in every color – and topped them with hats from every era. She even had some Barbie wigs and hats just for me! It may be a while before our stomach muscles stop hurting, but what fun we had! And we took photos to document the evening. I may have to stick around here longer than I’d planned!
